MENDON — Superintendent Maureen Cohen and Miscoe Hill Middle School Principal Robin Benoit are pleased to share that Miscoe Hill Middle School hosted a successful Expo event on Tuesday.

On the evening of Tuesday, April 9, families, staff members and students attended the Miscoe Expo at the Miscoe Hill Middle School. The Expo included a number of interactive activities, an Art Show and multiple musical performances by students in grades 5-8.

The Art Show was a large focus of the event. Students exhibited a range of artwork throughout the school, including ceramics, sculptures, comic panels, macro photos, mini art galleries, trick photography, digital dioramas, collage portraits, grid animals, 2-point perspective drawings, printmaking, papercrafts, watercolor landscapes, graffiti portraits and more.

In addition to the visual arts, students in the band, jazz band, chorus and A Cappella group showcased musical numbers for attendees, including “Easy on Me” by Adele, “How Far I’ll Go” from Moana, “Wrecking Ball” by Miley Cyrus, “Scars to Your Beautiful” by Alessia Cara, “Vuelie” from Frozen and more. Students also performed an individual scene act from “The Wizard of Oz” Remix by Adeline Cormier.

Attendees had the opportunity to join student-led clinics guided by health students in grades 5-8. The clinics included a demonstration about how much sugar a typical “tween” eats versus how much is recommended, an emotional literacy bingo game, a description of what happens to the brain when it’s under duress, stress-coping strategies and more. As part of the student-led clinics, students displayed a “stick the muscle on Peter Griffin,” which had attendees place the names of muscles on the corresponding position on the body.

Students also prepared a mini stress escape room for attendees to have an interactive experience. Each phase of the escape room was increasingly more stressful. Participating attendees were given stress management techniques at the end of the challenge.

“The Miscoe Expo showcased an exceptional display of our student creativity and skill,” said Superintendent Cohen. “It’s inspiring to see our students express themselves so passionately through their artwork, musical performances and knowledge.”
