MENDON —  Superintendent Maureen Cohen and Nipmuc Regional High School Co-Principals John Clements and Mary Anne Moran are proud to announce that 54 Nipmuc Regional High School students were inducted into the National Honor Society (NHS) at an induction ceremony on March 27.

At the start of the ceremony, the master of ceremonies and Nipmuc Chapter President Alexis Schwartzberg, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Cheryl Kirkpatrick, and English Language Arts teacher Courtney Henry offered remarks.

Members from the NHS Executive Board, Web Master Libby Fernald, Secretary Dana Schechter, Treasurer Joseph Fraser and Vice President Annalise Weibe gave speeches pertaining to one of the four pillars of the NHS. Following the speeches, President Schwartzberg presented students with membership certificates during a candlelight ceremony.

“We are very proud of all 54 outstanding students who have joined the Nipmuc Chapter,” said Superintendent Cohen. “It is a testament to their hard work, dedication and commitment to academic excellence.”

Students apply to the Nipmuc Regional Chapter through the submission of an online portfolio showcasing their accomplishments in alignment with the four pillars of NHS: scholarship, service, leadership and character. The national organization requires each chapter to convene a faculty council of five teachers who select applicants.

“I would like to congratulate our 54 student inductees on this prestigious honor,” said Nipmuc Regional High School English teacher and National Honor Society Adviser Chris Evans. “These students exemplify the highest standards of academic achievement, character and leadership.”

After induction, students will participate in chapter projects, commit to service, scholastic excellence and personal integrity. Juniors commit to thirty hours of community service and seniors commit to forty additional hours of service. The Nipmuc Chapter also supports school events and responds to requests for volunteerism within the community.
