Best-Selling Children's Author and Librarian John Schu is Visiting Clough Elementary School in Mendon
MENDON — Superintendent Dr. Maureen Cohen and Principal Liz Garden are proud to announce that best-selling children’s book author and librarian John Schu will visit Henry P. Clough Elementary School on Friday, Sept. 12.
Schu, the New York Times best-selling author of "This Is a Story" and "Louder Than Hunger," will be speaking during several school assemblies and holding book signings for students throughout the day.
The book signings provide an opportunity for Schu to talk one-on-one with students. The author is also expected to give away many books, which he will speak about during the school assemblies.
"We are honored to host John Schu, a renowned author and national library ambassador, who will be getting our students excited about books and reading," said Principal Garden. "John has made a career out of advocating for kids, books, and the people that connect them. We look forward to him sharing his passion and insights with all of us. Clough Elementary is filled with enthusiastic students who love to learn, and we hope this event will encourage them to keep going on their reading journey."
Principal Garden thanked the Clough PTO for helping to fund this special event.
Schu, who is a children’s librarian for the online book recommendation platform Bookelicious, will begin the day at Clough Elementary School in the cafeteria at 9:30 a.m. for a presentation before Grades 1 and 2. Schu, who is also the author of "This Is a School" and "Lily-May’s Joyful Day," will end the day with a book signing with Grades 3 and 4 at 2:35 p.m.
Schu's visit to Clough Elementary School will be the first stop on his latest tour of schools across the country, kicking off a new school year of travel to share his love for reading. A key message Schu delivers to students on his national tour is about how books can feel like a best friend and how some books are what he calls "books of the heart."
“This is a special opportunity for our students to hear directly from a champion of children's literacy about his love for books,” Superintendent Dr. Cohen said. “Thank you to Principal Garden for helping to organize this event and for all of our teachers and staff for supporting it. This is a great event that will help inspire our students for the rest of the school year and beyond.”
